MULTIVERSE MASHUP: NETFLIX’S “RUSSIAN DOLL" + MICHIO KAKU + BEAVIS & BUTT-HEAD

“Russian Doll” is an edgy take on the Groundhog Day conundrum - a woman who keeps dying on her birthday in spite of her best efforts to survive, instead of merely re-living the same day. I was watching with Closed Captioning and this quote jumped out. Unfortunately, taking a screen shot on my MacBook couldn’t grab the picture, just the quote. But the sentiment is worth sharing, even if I had to visually bleep out the language.

Creator/writer/director and star Natasha Lyonne knows, as she navigates multiple timelines in Season 2! This syncs beautifully with a quote from a NY Times article by physicist Michio Kaku titled, “IN ANOTHER UNIVERSE, ANOTHER YOU”:

In the quest to meld two opposing perspectives of the universe, we’re left with a host of deeply unsettling questions. Might we also exist in multiple states? What might we be doing if we had chosen a different career? Married someone else? What if we could somehow change important episodes in our past? As Einstein once wrote, “The distinction between past, present and future is only a stubbornly persistent illusion.”

In an interview Creator Mike Judge weighs in on his new movie “Beavis and Butt-Head Do the Universe” where the eternal teenagers journey into the multiverse:

Without giving too much away, Judge teased that fans of the Beavis and Butt-Head universe will find some surprises in this new film. “There’s a [scene] where every version of you exists in an infinite universe and the smartest version of [Beavis and Butt-Head] comes into play and that was really fun to do, so was the middle-aged versions of them,” he explained.
